CONGRATULATIONS! Mount Pleasant Center is closed!

Next, the small ICF/MR established at Caro (10) people! Then we can be done with this black period in our state's history.

Michigan will then be the largest state, of 11, with no public institutions and unique with no ICF/MR.

THANK YOU! Bill Allen, Mike Head and DCH including yeoman's work by staff. Many deserve our thank you, including those PIHPs and CMHSPs who lived up to their responsibility. This includes some who have done so for a long time and some for whom that is a recent development. Additional thanks to: Michigan Center for Positive Living Supports, CLS, CMS of Central Michigan and especially to our local chapters and our sister advocacy agencies for their help and support.                                        (posted 9/10/09)

The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) has appointed Price Pullins as Acting Director of the Mt. Pleasant Center (MPC) and Joyce Lazo-Kettley as Acting Director of Nursing to improve the care of individuals currently residing at MPC.

Mr. Bill Allen has been appointed as the consulting Community Transition Leader to assure that plans for transition into excellent community support arrangements are implemented without delay.

Utilization of Mt. Pleasant Center - The Michigan Department of Community Health has been concerned about the utilization of the Mt.Pleasant Center (MPC) (PDF) by CMHSPs and PIHPs and the lack of progress in diverting facility admissions, the delay in effecting quality, appropriate placements, and the long tenure of some individuals. Patrick Barrie, Deputy Director, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Administration has sent a memo to the Executive Directors of Prepaid Inpatient Health Plans (PIHPs) and Community Mental Health Services Programs (CMHSPs). Medicaid Cites Mount Pleasant Center Yet Again - A recertification survey found Mount Pleasant Center not in compliance with Conditions of Participation for ICF/MRs in the area of Client Protections. Already Operating under a Medicaid term limited agreement for numerous previous deficiencies set to expire on April 30th, Medicaid has asked for a credible Plan of Correction for this latest finding by January 16, 2008.
